‘How do you set and accomplish goals?’
‘Are there goal setting activities or strategies that can be employed?’
There is the possibility of achieving what seems impossible but even the everyday mundane goals will never be reached without a good plan of action. It’s also important to note that anything worth doing must be important enough to set a series of goals each of which must be achievable.
So, in order to answer our questions above, we will offer you a few suggestions for goal setting activities to get you started on the right track.
6 Goal Setting Activities
1. Define What Your Goals Are
Are they long-term or short-term?
Long-term goals are the ones that you set which are achievable within a longer period of time such as 1, 5, 10, 15, or even 20 years while short-term goals are achievable within a few weeks or even just a few days. You will need to set both types of goals for yourself or your business.
By setting a goal, be it long or short term, you become more productive, more organized and increase your chances for achieving your desired purpose of life.
2. Select An Area To Concentrate On
If this is a long term goal, it will most likely include something about working on the fundamental aspects of one’s life. So by selecting an area to concentrate on, say relationships or finances, you have a defined purpose to your goal.
If this is a short term goal, it can cover just about anything such as planning your summer vacation or your budget for the holiday season.
3. Daydream
This step involves dreaming about what you want to achieve. Sit back and relax. Dream about what you have always seen yourself doing when you achieve this particular goal and as you do so, write it down without erasing. list on a piece of paper all the things you wish to achieve in the specific area that you’re focusing on at the moment.
This will help you with your step-by-step focus for reaching your goal.
4. Prioritize
After dreaming and writing everything down on paper, prioritize your objectives. Day dreaming about certain activities may be just a dream and not necessarily a realistic one. You need to now determine which one of your dreams have a possibility of becoming reality.
Once you determine which dreams are realistic, place them in order of importance so you can work on those that are most important first.
5. Be Specific
Ask yourself why you’re setting this goal? This is an important step because the specific detail of a goal is the part that gives it power. Goal setting activities which are vague and abstract have less power to shape and direct one’s behavior and less chance of reaching completion.
6. Action
After arranging your priorities and developing specific steps, it’s time to take action in order to pursue your listed goals. This is where desire, belief and motivation comes into play. As long as you believe that your goals are reachable, the picture of what you desire is clearly in your mind and you have motivated yourself with the thoughts of the end results it’s time to work towards achieving them.
As you work on achieving your goals, always remember to not become discouraged if you aren’t able to attain them within the time frame you had defined. Don’t give up on a dream if you fail to meet a deadline or make a mistake along the way. Just pick yourself back up and set a new deadline and correct the mistakes as you continue to move in the direction of your goal.
It’s only a failure if you give up completely on what you desire or stop believing in yourself. So start working on these goal setting activities right now and make your dreams a reality.
